    The Test of Early Language Development-Third Edition: Spanish Version (TELD-3:S) is a translation and adaptation of the Test of Early Language Development-Third Edition. Individual subtests include Receptive and Expressive Language. An Overall Spoken Language score is provided.

    All scores are standard scores with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15. Percentiles and age equivalents are provided.

    The TELD-3:S was normed on 1441 children residing in Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, Spain, and the United States. In the United States, 12 states (Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Texas, Oregon, and Washington), the District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico are represented. From Mexico, data were collected from 6 states (Chihuahua, Nuevo León, Querétaro, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, and Yucatán).

    Data from Spain came from Sta. Cruz de Tenerife, Islas Canarias. Chilean data were collected in Santiago, while the data from Costa Rica came from Cartago, Heredia, and San Jose. The characteristics of the United States sample with regard to geographic region, gender, national origin of the dialect, and family income are based on 2000 The Statistical Abstract of the United States, The Statistical Abstract of the United States: 2003 Brief Report on Hispanics, and Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2003. For the Mexican sample, sample characteristics were based on the Instituto Nacional de Estadística, Geográfica, e Informática, 2000. The normative sample was collected between January 1, 2002 and May 2005.  

    Reliability was established based on coefficient alpha, test-retest, and interscorer procedures. Evidence of the validity of TELD-3:S test scores is proved for content-description validity, criterion-prediction validity, and construct-identification validity.

    Finally, the items were examined to ensure that little or no bias relative to gender, disability, race, socioeconomic level, ethnic group, and dialect variation existed. Differential item functioning techniques were used to examine all items for potential bias. A chart is provided to ensure that appropriate vocabulary is used during administration.

    The TELD-3:S Manual is printed in English except for the item instructions and the appendices used for scoring.
